A shield covers the bird’s chest, and exactly 50 stars encircle the seal. The reverse side of the half-dollar depicts a seal showing an eagle with an olive branch in one claw and thirteen arrows in the other. This obverse side of the half dollar was crafted by Gilroy Roberts in 1964, as a parting gift when retiring as a chief engraver. On the bottom, you’ll see the year in which the coin was minted.
